the Fishing for Energy program
You can help the environment and earn free dockage for one year!
The Fishing for Energy program collects derelict fishing nets and burns them for fuel. The goal is to encourage fishermen to properly remove from the ocean and dispose of retired/derelict fishing gear (a minimum of one ton) in exchange for one year of free dockage. Hazardous waste (i.e., waste oil) is not accepted.
This program is sponsored by the City of New Bedford, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Covanta Corporation, and NOAA. It is administered by the HDC’s Assistant Harbor Master. Call the HDC for more information (508) 961-3000.
